Pros and cons of Backplate and Wing

mini scuba tank

Two separate parts of a scuba helmet are the backplate (wing) and the wing (wing). Both pieces are attached to a buoyancy compensator that establishes neutral buoyancy underwater and positive buoyancy on the surface. The wing and backplate are modular systems that can be disassembled from each other. They are a good choice for divers not sure which type of scuba diving equipment to purchase. These are the pros & cons of each.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel back plate and wings are available with or without a harness. For the wings and backplate, 316 stainless-steel will be used. It is extremely saltwater resistant. The strap is manually polished and cut using a CNC cutter. They can also be used in conjunction with single-air-tank or dual air-tank systems. For easier storage, the wings and backplate can be removed from stainless steel.

Aluminium backplates weigh more than stainless steel. Stainless Steel backplates are ideal for colder climates where they will decrease the weight that you'll be carrying during your dive. Stainless steel backplates can be adjusted to fit most tanks, unlike lead pieces. A Halcyon Dealer may be able to give weighting advice so you can determine the best weight for your body. This backplate is also more durable, so it doesn't require as frequent replacement.

Plastic

Even though the buoyancy of plastic back plate or wing is negative it can still be beneficial for weight replacement. Jacket BCDs come with pockets and weight integration. The wing and backplate do not have these ancillary functions. These components can also be bought separately. The pros and cons of each will be discussed in this article. It is crucial to choose the right kind of back plate that suits your needs.

Softpack harness

There are different types of harnesses for back plate and wings. Backplates, wing BCDs, and the most common are both available. They include all of the essential components, such as a harness, backplate, and wing, and allow the user to customize the harness with a range of adjustable features. Softpack BCDs, which are lightweight and flexible, are great for technical divers.

Steel backplate harnesses are not adaptable. The harness is not intended to be used with single tanks. Although the steel harness is the strongest option, it is cumbersome to use while traveling. In addition, it is only suitable for double tanks, and the steel backplate may be unsuitable for use on land. This can be modified to work with single tanks using adapters but it is not recommended.
