What to Look for In a Dive Goggle

scuba diving certifications

There are many things you need to consider when buying a dive glimmer. You should consider the type of goggles you want, their features, cost, and whether or not you are eligible for insurance reimbursement. These are some helpful tips to help make an informed decision.

Types

Diver goggles can come in many styles, depending on their purpose. Some have prescription lenses and others do without. Pre-made glasses are great for people who can see clearly in water. But they are not suitable if you have severe astigmatism. Higher-end goggles made from tempered glass are also available. This is specially treated to ensure that it doesn't crack under pressure. Many goggles can be adjusted to fit your nose and provide a tight seal around your eyes.

There are three types of diving goggles. Some are made with lenses made of tempered glass, while others are made out of polycarbonate mixture. Even though goggles are smaller than diving masks, their effectiveness is the same. Protective lenses are small and lightweight, so they do NOT interfere with movement. You can also buy swimming goggles with premade prescription lenses. They usually have the same power and are suitable for both eyes. For those who require special lenses, custom-made lenses can also be made.

Cost

A pair of quality dive goggles is likely to cost more than 1000 dollars. If you plan on diving frequently, these expenses will quickly mount up. It is better for kids to rent gear and for adults to buy comfortable diving gear. You may not know which kind of dive goggles you should buy. Keep reading to learn more about the pros and con of each option. We've collected our favorites and their price points.

Reimbursement

Flexible spending accounts or healthcare savings accounts allow you to get reimbursements for lenses and dive goggles. However, these reimbursements only cover prescription products, not accessories. While some healthcare savings accounts require you to submit a vision insurance claim first, many do not. If you're unsure whether your insurance will cover these purchases you can file an outside-of-network claim through See the Sea RX.
