A dive master is a professional who enables others to go underwater by leading recreational and organised dives. The dive master qualification is required for all divers who have supervisory or guide responsibility in many countries. A job as a divemaster isn't for everyone. With the right qualifications, however, you can be a dive master. These are just a few of the many benefits that come with becoming a diving master.
A job description for a dive master
What are the duties of a diving master? It involves many duties such as assessing the risk of diving, supervising customer divers, giving briefings and leading groups through a diver's dive. The job description of a dive master is more varied. Divers can be responsible in many different areas of the dive shop, such as general operation and social presence.
Instructors in diving teach and oversee scuba techniques in open or swimming water. They can also supervise and plan non-training activities such as navigation exercises. Open water dive instructors can lead students on the surface and navigation portions of the dives. Dive instructors may also be responsible for directing certified divers through scuba review courses. Diving instructors' legal responsibility varies from one country to the next. A waiver can be signed by a dive instructor to exempt them from legal liability in certain countries.
Certification requirements
If you'd like to work as a dive master, you'll need to complete a course to learn the skills you need to be a successful Divemaster. Divemaster courses cover topics like managing divers, managing dive sites and finding the flow. In addition, candidates must have a minimum of 60 logged dives. Divemasters can assist novice divers with theory and skills, as well as assisting instructors during dive courses.
Dive masters have to take courses in addition. They also need to pass a two-part exam. Candidates must score at minimum 75% in each section to pass the exam. The PADI Instructor Guide and the eRDPML will be used to prepare for the exam. Students will also have to prepare an emergency plan and perform five water skills exercises. At least fifteen points must be combined. After completing the course, divemasters must receive certification.
Internship requirement
There are many internships available to help you become a divemaster. You can help with other PADI courses or set up dive sites depending on your preferences. Your assistance may be needed for skill circuits. The internship will follow a specific pattern. A typical internship will last for eight weeks. During the same time, you might become an Advanced Open Water Diver. After four to six weeks of training, you will be able to become a Divemaster or Diveguide.
You may also be able to find a free internship for Divemasters in addition to paid internships. Even though free internships may not be ideal, they will allow you to get valuable advice and study from a Divemaster. Your internship may include the opportunity to obtain manuals and certification as well as equipment. You should also be aware of the requirements before enrolling in any Divemaster course.
